Dojo Rules and Etiquette

Before entering and leaving the Dojo (Training Hall) bow from the waist. “Karate wa rei ni hajimari rei ni owaru” – Karate begins and ends with courtesy.

When training is in session, silence must be maintained when instruction is being given.

No use of Mobile Phones (Except in an emergency), No Smoking, No Gum Chewing, No Eating or Drinking (Except Water) and No Swearing is permitted during the training session.

No person will be allowed to train while under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

Smart Watches are permitted to be worn to track physical activity however MUST be removed when instructed to depending on the activity to prevent damage and/or injury. (E.G Grappling Techniques or Sparring)

Jewellery to be removed where possible. No Rings & No loose dangling earrings to be worn. Piercings are permitted providing they will not cause injury to others and the owner accepts the risk of injury should they choose to wear piercings during training.

Fingernails & Toenails to be kept short and clean.

Personal hygiene to be kept at an acceptable standard.

Gi’s/Training Clothes are expected to be clean and presentable for the start of training.

Students will be expected to wear Gi’s unless directed otherwise. When training out of Gi’s, suitable clothing to be worn such as loose-fitting t-shirts and joggers.

Punctuality is expected at all times.

Students must ensure that they inform one of the instructors if they are running late, unable to make it to a session due to a last minute reason or if they will be absent for more than 2 weeks.

Visitors are welcome to observe training sessions providing that the above rules are followed.

This is a disciplined Martial Art and will be treated as such. Respect towards others and themselves must be held at the highest standard. Any person found breaching these rules or showing disrespect to others will result in that person receiving warnings and any continued breaches will results in that person being removed from the Dojo and banned.
